7 Ways to Recover As a Leader After You’ve Messed Up

Carey Nieuwhof

We all make mistakes. Almost daily. Okay, daily. We’re human. Some mistakes go unnoticed. So you take notes and hope not to repeat.

But what happens when you blow it and people do notice? Sometimes everyone knows you made a mistake but no one’s saying anything. Should you break the ice? And if so how?

Or what about those situations when people confront you or bring it up. How can you recover as a leader without losing face?

Believe it or not, there is a way you can handle it that, in most cases, will actually increase people’s respect for you. (Read the whole post)

How to Reach People Who Don’t Think They Need God

Carey Nieuwhof

So how do you reach a growing number of people who are learning to live comfortably without God? Here are a few ways that work!

1. Build relationships. Jesus was deeply relational, and it seems he liked relationships with people outside the ‘church’ more than he liked hanging around people inside the ‘church’. One of the best ways to encourage people to build relationships with unchurched people is to stop running ministries in your church every night of the week. Encourage the Christians in your church to get involved in their kids schools, to play sports in a community league, to get to know their neighbours. Pick a few key ministries and do them well (we encourage people to serve on Sundays and be in community group one night a week; that’s about it). Salt only realizes its purpose if it gets out of the box and into the food it needs to season. You can’t influence people you don’t know. (Read the complete post here)

8 Steps to Start A Nonprofit Ministry

Starting a nonprofit ministry entails following established rules of incorporation for nonprofit entities. Nonprofit ministry organization includes filing for and obtaining an Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and filing 501(c)(3), which exempts your ministry from income taxes, and in some cases, property tax. 501(c)(3) status allows your church to accept tax-deductible charitable contributions, according to Urban Ministry. 24/7 Prayer Resource

Many ministries are maxed in their capacity to serve, yet still have calls for prayer long after the church closes. While it may be fiscally unfeasible to man an around the clock prayer line, crisis happens 24 hours a day and there are services that can help.

Here are some great referral ministries that offer 24/7 live prayer.

CBN/ The 700 Club – 1-800-823-6053 24 or Chat online

Are Ministers Exempt from Income Tax?

Although many have fallen into this mistaken assumption, in most cases Ministers are not exempt from paying federal income taxes. Since 1943 (Murdock v. Pennsylvania, 319 U.S. 105), the United States Supreme Court has ruled that the First Amendment guaranty of religious freedom is not violated by subjecting ministers to the federal income tax. And yet, ministers have tried to argue against this ruling for decades. You can read more about this important decision from this post at Christianity Today.

Microsoft Resolves Office 365 Charity Licensing Issue for Churches

Nick B. Nicholaou

Many Christian churches and ministries have been uncomfortable with the Microsoft charity program for Office 365 because it requires them to certify they don’t discriminate in their employment practices regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. On October 8, 2015, Microsoft addressed these concerns and posted changes to its policy on its website. Read the entire post here

TAKING THE LEAP TO START A MINISTRY

One of the exciting moments in the church is when you see a member of the congregation move from spectator to participant. Where they once only attended on the weekend and occasional seasonal events, they now feel they have found their purpose: God has given them a vision to start a new ministry.

With both great excitement and some apprehension, they approach you, the Pastor, to see how to get started. They are ready to go! But often times, if this moment and the following six weeks are not handled well, chaos and/or hurt feelings will occur. The most important thing you as the pastor can do is be ready to receive and guide this emerging leader and possible ministry.

If the following elements are included in the conversation, the process for determining the viability for this new ministry will be smoother. Read the post in its entirety at Ministry Matters

Minister Now!

Christian Global Outreach Ministries recently launched MINISTER NOW! to provide ordination credentials and support to those Christians who have been called to ministry, but because of geography, military service, or other limitations, have been previously unable to be ordained.

The process is based on your Christian witness. You will be credentialed as an ordained minister of Christian Global Outreach Ministries and will be able to; start your own ministry, perform weddings and other ministry related duties in all 50 states. The credential is lifetime, but all ministers are asked to regularly connect with the ministry for support, information and community with other ministers.

We are excited to offer this resource to advance the Kingdom of Christ. For more information please visit ministernow.org .
