2020 Is God’s Year
I got a little decorative letter board sign for Christmas last year. I put up the phrase “2020 is God’s year” on New Year’s Eve of 2019. Normally I find a new quote to put on the board and I change it out every few weeks. This phrase has been different. I have left it up all year. When I decided to put this phrase on the board, I had no idea what 2020 would hold. A tornado that destroyed much of my hometown, a coronavirus, an abrupt end to my freshman year of college, loss and death, heartache, tears, confusion.
Despite all that 2020 has brought, I decided to keep this phrase on the board, because it is the truest and most consistent truth that I have to hold on to. 2020 has not played out the way that I expected. In fact, I would never have pictured this year to look like it currently does. I keep seeing posts on social media that say “2020 sucks” or “Can we just skip this year already?!” etc. – And hear me when I say that these feelings are completely valid and I am right there with you.
Why would we want to skip God’s year? Imagine what He could do in the next 4 months that we would miss? Why would we spend time wishing that this season were over rather than spending time enjoying what we have and noticing hidden blessings? We have abundant opportunities to bring glory to the Father during this time. We have a chance to be kind to those who are risking their lives to serve us daily. We have several chances to be creative and use the mind that God has given us to make the best of a difficult situation. We can use this time to praise Him in the storm and draw near to His heart.
As Christians, we know that He is in control. We know that God has plans to bless those who obey Him. The coronavirus is not a punishment, it is an opportunity. No matter what comes our way, 2020 is God’s year. He is always working. No virus or tornado or sadness or fear from the enemy can change the fact that this year belongs to God, and He will get the glory from every situation. Let’s praise Him because He is still good. Wake up every day and choose to love others well. Let’s rejoice and be glad in the day that He has gifted us, whether it looks like we thought it would or not. 2020 is God’s year – let’s live like it.
